Aaron Smith discusses the Rolling Jubilee. (Audio)

Nov 20, 2012
Interview by Sara Kendall.
A discussion of the "Rolling Jubilee", a project of an organizational called Strike Debt, an offshoot of Occupy Wall St. Strike Debt is raising money to buy distressed debt from financial firms -- just like debt collectors do, often for pennies on the dollar -- and then erasing the debt so that borrowers don’t have to repay. They are buying up debt in order to “liberate debtors at random through a campaign of mutual support, good will, and collective refusal,” and have raised, to date, over $350,000 - to abolish over $7 million dollars of debt. Organizers have dubbed the effort the "people's bailout." We’re joined by Aaron Smith, one of the organizers of the Rolling Jubilee.

Smith discusses how the Jubilee works, and explains the notions of debt resistance and mutual aid.
