Mar 25, 2013
Recorded by Sara Kendall.
This past weekend, The Sanctuary for Independent Media in Troy, NY hosted an event called "Changing the Climate: (r)Evolution for Social and Environmental Justice" -- a series of workshops and conversations, designed to bring together a multi-generational group of activists, educators, and artists. The event included a "Be the Media! Workshop series," coordinated by DeeDee Hallack, media activist and founder of Paper Tiger Television and the Deep Dish Satellite Network. WGXC's Sara Kendall, Jared Widjeskog, and the Radio Explosion youth production crew -- Olivia Williams, William Joseph Dow, Adrianna Rose Solon, and Courtney Murphy -- participated in the series and recorded the event. This broadcast includes excerpts from a conversation called "Media Makers Share Their Histories, Dreams, and Disasters," focusing on the past and future of community media spaces, and radio activism.
The following voices are included in this broadcast: Steve Pierce and Branda Miller, from The Sanctuary for Independent Media; Lou Ismay from the SACC (Schenectady Access Cable Council); Elizabeth Press, an independent media producer from Democracy Now! and StreetFilms; Madalyn Warren, host of The Farm Hour at WIOX, 91.3-FM Roxbury Community Radio; Nick Ring, from WBCR-LP 97.7-FM Community Radio in the Berkshires; and Olivia Williams, Courtney Murphy, and Sara Kendall from WGXC: Hands-on Radio.
