Hosted by Rob Saffer.
The first hour of Overlooked's “The Seventh Annual Thanksgiving Tryptophanfest of Intolerable Music” is rebroadcast from Nov. 23, 2021. Tryptophanfests are created to present an array of music so unlistenable that you would want to turn off the radio and go back to spending time with your hopefully less intolerable family. This year is different; since many of us are still not spending time with family, the 2021 edition of Tryptophanfest will be much less intolerable than usual as radio might serve as your less intolerable substitute family! Host Rob Saffer will play all new releases spanning a variety of genres, continents, and sonic tapestries. Featuring William Burroughs; Patrick Shiroshi; Irreversible Entanglements; Adam O’Farrill; Steve Coleman; The Claudia Quintet; Jeff Lederer; Lou Harrison; Marilyn Crispell and Yuma Uesaka; Eunhye Jeong; Saint Abdullah; Phong Tran; Plum Green; Kuunatic; Monsieur Doumani; Ben LeMar Gay; Springtime; Daniel Wyche; Jane Ira Bloom and Allison Miller; Mary Halvorson and Sylvie Courvoisier; Kim Kashkashian performing Gyorgy Kurtag; Catherine Graindorge; and Ustad Saami.
Overlooked is a show focusing on overlooked and under-heard jazz, improvisational, and other fringe music, from early roots to contemporary experiments, a mix of familiar to rare, classic to weird. Live from the shadow of Overlook Mountain in Ulster County.
Host Rob Saffer is the former Executive Director and Producer of the Creative Music Foundation.
