Audio Buffet: Libita Sibungu's "undercurrents"
Jan 25, 2024: 1pm - 1:35 pm
Produced by many contributors.
Presented in partnership with Radio Amnion, undercurrents is written with water bodies and ancestral memory, Sibungu draws on Dionne Brand’s poem; ‘Ruttier for the Marooned of the Diaspora’ (from her novel; A Map to the Door of No Return: Notes to Belonging, 2001), as a way to compose an imagined journey with an ever emerging water spirit; from primordial waters, to inner ear, to inner city, rooted in African mythology and Afrofuturist transformation, carried intergenerationally within the ongoing rupture of the Translatlantic Slave Trade. This new audio artwork was developed collaboratively through a series of workshops with black artists, writers and historians with a connection to Bristol in response to field and hydrophone recordings gathered in 2022.
Featuring a guided meditation by artist; Maria Christoforidou.
