Chatham, Saugerties students join Catskill in planning March 14 walkouts
Feb 27, 2018 12:55 pm
Students at Chatham High School and Saugerties High School are joining a previously announced walkout at Catskill High School protesting shootings in schools March 14. The walkout comes one month after a shooting at a Florida school left 17 dead and 14 wounded. Students across the country have joined the National School Walkout since then for protests at 10 a.m. March 14 for 17 minutes. Monument Valley School in Great Barrington, Albany's Bishop Maginn High School, Red Hook High School, and Kingston city schools are also listed on the national map of school protests March 14 organized by young people to protest gun violence. In Columbia-Greene Media last week Catskill student Joanna VanSlyke said, “We want to tell Congress enough is enough.... I should not be scared to go to school."
