The "Saturday Afternoon Show" welcomes Nicolas Collins, celebrated artist and Professor, Department of Sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, who will speak with host Tom Roe about his newly released "Pea Soup To Go," an open access version of Collin's venerable feedback composition, "Pea Soup." "Pea Soup To Go" is a free streaming audio web application that generates an ever-changing domestic sound art installation on any computer.

Premiered in 1974, "Pea Soup" creates a self-stabilizing feedback network of microphones and speakers that tunes itself to the architectural acoustics of the space and responds to events—instrumental performances, ambient sounds, human movement, even air currents—with swooping flights of sound. "Pea Soup To Go" mines decades of performances, including contributions by numerous guest musicians, from around the globe to produce a similarly dreamy soundscape that slowly shifts from key to key as the app shuffles and cross-fades from one recorded space to another.

Black Lake installation and performance in the gallery's garden. Black Lake is a multi-media duo comprised of Susan Jennings and Slink Moss. Combining projected video, hand-made sculpture/instruments, paintings, shadows, spoken word, electric guitars, original lyrics, and percussion, Black Lake usually makes art installations in galleries and museums. Throughout the course of each exhibit, the duo enters into the installations one or more times to make sound art and perform their original music. For this one-evening musical and sound art performance, Black Lake will install their sculpture/instruments and project video art onto the snowy garden behind the gallery. The event will be live-streamed on the BlackLakeArt Ustream Channel http://www.ustream.tv/channel/black-lake-art and takes place during Hudson's Annual Winter Walk. WGXC will broadcast the performance at 7 p.m.

The work consists of 13 brief installments, aired together here (52:00) as a Saturday Night Seance program. In Memory of Johnny B. Goode: A Radio Play is a bizarre and allegorical repurposing of Johnny B. Goode anachronistically re-cast as Pierrot as an alter-ego of an archetypically alienated drug-debauched artist. Across the 13 episodes, listeners follow Johnny/Pierrot into the darkest corners of excess, addiction and, eventually, suicide. This is a lost, mashed-up world of rock music, art and poetry, with swirls of psychedelic sonic atmosphere, interwoven with fragments of loosely connected narrative.
