Hudson Democrats announce candidates

The Hudson City Democratic Committee this week announced its endorsement of 14 local candidates in the upcoming local elections. According to a statement released by the committee, the goals of the candidates chosen "align with the committee’s vision of 'Progress for All.' The candidates have committed to work toward a more inclusive city that meets the needs of all its residents." The Democrats that "identified economic development, affordable housing, and the waterfront as important issues for the next term," include: Rick Rector (Mayor), Heather Campbell (incumbent Treasurer), Sarah Sterling (incumbent 1st Ward Supervisor), Kamal Johnson (1st Ward Alderman), Tiffany Garriga (incumbent 2nd Ward Alderwoman), Victor Mendolia (2nd Ward Alderman), Michael Chameides (3rd Ward Supervisor), Shershah Mizan (3rd Ward Alderman), Calvin Lewis (3rd Ward Alderman), William Hughes Jr. (incumbent 4th Ward Supervisor), John Rosenthal (4th Ward Alderman), Richard Scalera (incumbent 5th Ward Supervisor), Eileen Halloran (5th Ward Alderwoman) and Dominic Merante (5th Ward Alderman). The committee failed to endorse candidates in the Common Council President, 2nd Ward Supervisor and the second 4th Ward alderman races. The Democratic primary will be held September 12. The general election is November 7. NOTE: Johnson and Mendolia are WGXC programmers.
