New COVID-19 variation now in Saratoga County

Jan 05, 2021 2:30 pm
The River Newsroom reports that the new, aggressive variant of COVID-19 first discovered in Britain has now been found in Saratoga County. In a Jan. 4 press conference, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the variant known as B.1.1.7 was found in a worker at N. Fox Jewelers, at 404 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Anyone shopping there between December 18 and 24 should get tested immediately, Cuomo said. The new variant is easier to catch, but is not believed to be more dangerous. The vaccines are still effective against this strain. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the closure of almost all schools, travel, and nonessential business in the UK on Jan. 4, largely because this new coronavirus strain is more easily transmitted, and has filled hospitals there.
