Kenneth Lovett reports in the New York Daily News that the state of New York is missing tens of millions of dollars in MTA bridge and tunnel tolls and fines that have gone unpaid as the state has moved to away from having humans collect tolls. Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released a new audit Nov. 20 that shows that $11.3 million was written off or uncollected from November 2012 through January 2017 as cashless tolls are now widespread on state highways. The audit reports that the MTA is not aggressively suspending vehicle registrations for toll scofflaws. Only 736 of 10,421 vehicles eligible for suspension were submitted to the state Department of Motor Vehicles for action.
