CLAVERACK - Has Walking Tall, that strange early 70s vigilante movie, come back with a vengeance in Columbia County? The Mid Hudson News Network reports this morning on a Monday morning burglary gone bad where three young men trying to break into a mobile home off Gahbauer Road in the Town of Claverack attacked one of the home's residents with a mallet, but were then beaten back with a basebball bat and arrested. The three are all in the Columbia County Jail charged with first-degree burglary, now. Eric Samperisi, Jr., 17, of Hudson, Stephen Pabon, 19, of Greenport and Abdul Salaam, 20, of Hudson, were also charged with conspiracy in the fourth degree, also a felony.
"Three residents of the home were awakened at 5:30 a.m. by noise from the intruders, who attacked a 51-year-old and struck him over the head with a mallet several times," reads the MHNN story. "During the altercation, the homeowner struck Samperisi with a baseball bat and subdued him until police arrived." A short time later, police located the other two intruders walking along Route 66 with proceeds from the burglary.
