Melanie Lekocevic reports in the Greenville Pioneer that Greenville voters May 21 are faced with a a 0.98 percent tax levy increase on the school budget, and two open seats on the school board. The current board needs approval on a budget of $31,373,618, a 2.64 percent increase from last year. But different towns within the Greenville school district will be taxed at different rates. "It all depends on the equalization rates that are set in the summer and the assessed values that are set in the summer," the Greenville school district's business official, Robyn Bhend said. "Depending on what town you live in, that could be an increase for some and a decrease for others." Superintendent of Schools Tammy Sutherland said, "We are very happy with the budget.... It balances our commitment to students and the programs that we offer and our fiscal health in the district, as well as our commitment to the taxpayers to be fiscally efficient."
