The deadline for submission of designating petitions for state and local office was Thurs., July 12. Based on the information made available by the state Board of Elections and various county boards, primaries are on tap for Republicans in the 41st and 43rd Senate districts, and in the 105th Assembly District. Democrats will have primaries in the 46th SD and the 107th AD. In the 107th, Cheryl Roberts of Spencertown is faced with two primaries, for both the Democrat and Working Families lines.

This year, Poughkeepsie Republican Steve Saland (right) will face his first primary challenge in 32 years. He is opposed by Neil DeCarlo of Brewster (Putnam Co.). Saland is seeking his 12th, two-year term to serve the now redrawn 41st. He was not endorsed by the Conservative Party this time around -- a direct result of his vote in support of the Marriage Equality Act last summer.

Former Assemblyman and gubernatorial hopeful Patrick Manning (left) has returned to electoral politics. He is seeking the Republican spot on the ballot in the 105th AD. Manning, of East Fishkill, served in the Assembly from 1994 to 2006, departing after he lost in a primary to Marcus Molinaro. Manning was recently passed over by the GOP in favor of Richard Wager to run against Didi Barrett, Molinaro's eventual successor. This time he will face off against Wager and former Congressional candidate Kieran Michael Lalor for a spot on the Republican line in November.
