New York's Democratic presidential primary date under review

David Lombardo is reporting for Capitol Confidential the primary election schedule in recent years has found New York in the middle of the pack, a full two months after the first contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. As a result, the field of candidates is often narrowed down by the time New Yorkers get to vote. Newly elected state Democratic Committee Chair Jay Jacobs said the state’s primary date is something he will look at in the coming weeks. “That is one of the top things on my agenda,” he said. If the state party wanted to move its primary, Jacobs said it would require action by the Legislature.
