PSC holds info meeting on AC upgrade plan

The New York State Public Service Commission held one of three information meetings, Wed., Dec. 11, on the proposed Alternating Current (AC) Transmission Upgrade Proceeding in Albany. Approximately 25 people attended the meeting, including Assembly members Pete Lopez and Didi Barrett, Roger Downs from the Sierra Club, officials from Athens, Claverack and Livingston, along with residents of Columbia, Dutchess and Greene counties, where several different AC power line projects are pending. The event was moderated by Jim Denn, PSC Director of Public Affairs. The two-hour meeting covered a variety of issues including, details on why these projects are happening now, safety and security concerns, property values and real estate, the route of the lines, eminent domain and the costs and benefits of the projects. Diana Barney, PSC Utility Supervisor, explained that DC power does not help relieve the congestion of power going downstate. PLAY (1:38).
