Featuring a humble tribute to a cultural giant: Hugh Masekela (April 4, 1939-Jan. 23, 2018) was a musician's musician, Pan-Africanist and anti-apartheid political activist whose career spanned half a century. Often described as "the father of South African Jazz," his music has inspired people around the world and contributed to profound change in his homeland of South Africa. In this broadcast, we'll hear a selection of Masekela's lesser-known works, rare recordings, cross-genre collaborations, and interpretations by other artists.
