Regional unemployment rates decline in May

MidHudsonNews [dot] com is reporting unemployment rates in the Hudson Valley remained high in May, but lower than in April, according to data released this week from the state labor department. With the region in phase three of the reopening of the economy, the unemployment numbers are expected to come down in the coming weeks. Orange County reported the highest rate of unemployment last month at 11.9 percent, while Columbia County had the lowest at 8.1 percent. Ulster and Greene counties each recorded an 11 percent joblessness rate; Sullivan County 10.9 percent; and Putnam and Dutchess counties each recorded a 10.6 percent unemployment rate.
