Vince Pecoraro reports in the Chatham Courier that drivers in Canaan are getting flat tires because of potholes on state roads, according to Councilwoman Brenda Adams. Routes 295 and 22, in particular were named at a March 9 town meeting as crumbling, according to Supervisor Richard Keaveney and Highway Supervisor Bernhard Meyer. “The highway department is constantly talking to Hudson DOT, New York State DOT, telling them where certain issues are in these roads that are becoming a real hazard,” Keaveney said. “So the town does communicate these things. We don’t have the responsibility, but that doesn’t mean we don’t take the responsibility of informing them wherever the next big pothole is coming because we see it before they do.” Meyer says he has called the DOT in Chatham and Hudson, and the headquarters in Poughkeepsie. When that did not result in action, he called the governor’s office, who sent him back to Poughkeepsie after running him through emergency management. Now he's calling the offices of Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C,I,SC-Schaghticoke) and Sen. Kathleen Machione (R,C,I-Halfmoon). Read the full story in the Chatham Courier.
