Legislators to spend $1.4 million on new Hunter transfer station

Dec 23, 2019 11:54 pm
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that Greene County legislators agreed to spend about $1.4 million on a new Hunter transfer station. The county had previously discussed rehabbing the previous Hunter transfer station. “It is much higher than our original estimate, but it is a much more workable solution,” Highway and Solid Waste Superintendent Robert Van Valkenburg said. The new station will be capable of exporting its own waste, compared to the old station, that had to send it to Catskill before shipping. That change, the story claims, could save the county $100,000 per year in trucking costs. Catskill Republican Legislator Michael Bulich said, “I don’t see how you get around not going with another building." The Hunter station has been accepting about 3,000 tons per year, while the Windham station gets about 2,200 tons. Read more about this story at HudsonValley360.com.
