Lumberyard drops Phoenicia Flea market

Oct 31, 2018 9:23 am
Sarah Trafton reports for Columbia-Greene Media that the Phoenicia Flea's holiday market won't be held at Lumberyard in Catskill Thanksgiving weekend, after Phoenicia Flea organizer James Anthony implied on social media that Republican vendors weren't welcome. “She wanted to be a vendor in our event and we said no,” Anthony said on social media about the vendor who was not allowed to sell at the holiday fair. “We are founded and curated by a gay Mexican American. If you vote for racist, sexist and homophobic neanderthals... [T]hen you have no right to participate in all the beauty and culture we create in the world. It’s that simple. We’re not interested in your support.” Anthony cited an image of Mexicans crossing the border on Loretta McNab of Windham's website, that said "This is what America will look like if you don’t vote Republican." Lumberyard refuse to comment on the matter other than a social media post of their own. "Lumberyard stands against discrimination of any kind, be it on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation or political affiliation,” according to the statement. “Unfortunately, a situation has come to light that we feel violates those standards. Because of this, we will be canceling Phoenicia Flea’s rental of our space in late November.” Read the full story at HudsonValley360.com.
