Bill Williams is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media "Wally," a 1,200-pound life-size Stegosaurus that calls the Berkshire Museum home, was returned to Columbia County April 10, to be restored. Wally has spent the last 23 years on the front lawn of the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Mass. after spending 30 years at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. “Wally will be missed, but we are happy he will be receiving a much-needed restoration so that our community can enjoy him for many years to come,” said Berkshire Museum Executive Director Jeff Rodgers. The fiberglass Stegosaurus is 26 feet long from the end of his nose to the tip of his tail, and it stands 12 feet high at the top of the armor plates. It was created by Louis Paul Jonas Studios in Churchtown for the New York World’s Fair in 1964 and 1965. Wally was the second model fabricated from a mold created for the Sinclair Dinoland Pavilion at the fair. Sinclair was a leading producer of fossil fuels in the 1960s. In October 1963, before the dinosaurs were shipped to the fair in New York City, “Dino Day” was held in Hudson.
