No Republican primary for president in New York this spring

Mar 04, 2020 12:21 am
Nick Reisman at New York State of Politics reports that there will not be a Republican primary election for president in New York this year. Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld failed to qualify for the ballot, the state Board of Elections said March 3. President Donald Trump was expected to beat Weld by a wide margin in the April 28 primary. But the lack of a presidential primary may hurt other Republicans running in special elections that same day. Democrat Nate McMurray faces Republican Chris Jacobs for the 27th Congressional House district, and Democrat John Mannion is running against Republican Angi Renna for a state Senate seat near Syracuse. Democrats may be turning out in heavy numbers that day to decide who they will run against Trump in November. Read more about this story at New York State of Politics.
