Audrey Matott is reporting in The Daily Mail the Cairo-Durham Central School District's $3.3 million capital project was approved by voters, Tues., Dec. 16. The referendum was agreed to on a vote of 137 to 98. Interim School District Superintendent Anthony Taibi (tie-EE-bee) said, “I’m thankful for the support of the community on our capital project and passing the project ensures that we can keep our costs even going forward.” Board of Education President David Infantino was also pleased. He said, “There are a lot of things that are going to be set in place that need to be set in place; a lot of security-minded improvements.” The green light from voters authorized payment for an upgrade to the district water treatment system, the creation of a single point of entry at the elementary school, asbestos abatement, updates to the elementary school playgrounds and the addition of a new bus loop and 60 more parking spaces, along with various other updates to the elementary school building. Construction is expected to get underway in the summer of 2015.
