One contested race in the village of Catskill

Raymond Pignone is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media village elections in New York will take place September 15, six months later that originally planned as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Voters in the village of Catskill will be asked to decide one contested race, between incumbent Democrat trustee Joseph Kozloski and Republican challenger Samuel Aldi. Aldi, 68, is currently the receiver of taxes for the town of Catskill. He is a retired licensed registered nurse and a retired licensed perfusionist. Aldi's name will appear on the Republican and Village Visions lines on the ballot. He has been a resident of Greene County since 1994, after living in Schenectady, Scotia and New York City. If elected, Aldi said he would address infrastructure improvements "to build the future of our village while we still try to maintain and preserve the historical integrity of our village." Senior and low-income housing is high on his list, as well. Aldi also wants to see more education as a way to combat the opioid crisis and an expansion the village’s youth programs. Kozloski, 68, is a retired employee of the state Bridge Authority. He is a Democrat and has been endorsed by the Greene County Independence Party. He was a village trustee from 2005 to 2014, a Greene County legislator from 2013 to 2015, and he returned to the village board in 2017. Kozloski says two key issues faced by the village are a housing shortage and the water supply. “The first is to increase our tax base by bringing in more businesses and much-needed affordable housing,” Kozloski said. “In the village there are a few vacant parcels that could be used for multiple-unit housing.” As for the water issue, he says if the village is careful with allocating its funds, purchasing a needed 1.5 million gallon water storage tank is possible. Kozloski is most proud of helping to bring Catskill Commons, Urgent Care and Crossroads Brewing to the village. Polling location details are not available at the Catskill village website or Facebook page. The village clerk can be reached by calling (518) 943-3830.
