Mar 20, 2015 6:34 am
Matthew Hamilton is reporting at Capitol Confidential according to the report from Nonprofit VOTE released last week, voter turnout in New York was 49th best in the nation, with only 29 percent of eligible voters casting ballots in the 2014 general election. Adjusting for population growth, that represented a 20 percent decrease in turnout since 2010. The state ranked 48 in 2010. Only Texas and Indiana had worse turnouts last year. Tops in the country was Maine, which offers same-day voter registration, with a 58.5 percent turnout. Wisconsin, another same-day registration state, was second with 56.8 percent turnout. Nonprofit VOTE is a Boston-based group that helps non-profits with voter participation.
