Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media consideration of the proposed Catskill Gardens, a $25 million low-income housing complex for adults with special needs, was once again the subject of conversation at the Catskill Village Board meeting May 23. The proposed site for the facility is on West Main Street in the village, near the Creekside Restaurant. The three-story, 90-unit apartment complex would offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, plus space for educational programs, a community space, a gymnasium and computer room. The scoping for the project has not begun and a state environmental review will be conducted, Village President Vincent Seeley said. “A misnomer that people have is that we on the board can say no to it. We can’t. It has to go through the process,” Seeley said. The village planning board has asked project designers Mauri Architects for a scoping document to address project considerations, and Mauri representatives are expected to attend the June 11 planning board meeting. The project is preliminary and an exact timeline and costs have not been determined. The facility has been proposed by the Mental Health Association of Columbia and Greene Counties.
