Latest anti-Semitic attack comes in Rockland County

Dec 30, 2019 12:48 am
CNN reports that the 13th act of anti-Semitism in New York in the past three weeks was a multiple stabbing at a Hanukkah celebration this weekend in Rockland County that turned in to a national political story. President Donald Trump did not weigh in, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo did, calling the suspect in custody, Grafton Thomas, a terrorist before other authorities characterized the crime that way. There were reports that the suspect has mental health issues. The defendant's only arrests came earlier this year for menacing and reckless endangerment. He pleaded not guilty to five counts of attempted murder and one count of first-degree burglary. Cuomo also directed State Police to increase patrols and security in Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods across the state. And he also said that besides the thirteen acts of anti-Semitism in New York in the past three weeks, there have been other hateful incidents targeting the black, Latino, and LGBT communities.
