The Homelessness Marathon is an annual 14-hour radio broadcast featuring the voices and stories of homeless people from around the United States. The Homelessness Marathon features live call-ins all night long via a national toll-free number. The Homelessness Marathon is available for free to all non-commercial radio stations, and will air this year on WGXC Online Radio at www.wgxc.org. The 14th Annual Homelessness Marathon will originate from Kansas City, starting at 6 p.m., central time, on the evening of February 23, 2011, and ending at 8 a.m., central time, on the morning of February 24. The hosts on the ground will be Care of Poor People, Inc. and HopeFaith Ministries. The broadcast will originate from the HopeFaith site at 705 Virginia Ave. Our hosts on the air will be Kansas City's 100,000 watt community radio station, KKFI.

Joan Geitz and Tom Roe will anchor WGXC's contribution to the marathon, with brief reports at the top of the hour. The WGXC Morning Show at 9 a.m. and WGXC's "Tell It Like It Is" show at 10 a.m. will cover local homelessness. "Tell It Like It Is" will include live in-studio interviews with Paul Mossman, Commissioner of Social Services of Columbia County; and Mark Dunlea, Associate Director of Hunger Action Network of NYS; and Tina Sharp from Columbia Opportunities. The program ends at noon.
