Mallory Moench is reporting for the Times Union stickers with white supremacist messages have been posted around downtown Troy in recent months. One said, "They hate you for being white." Another read, "Multiculturalism kills." And still another, "We shall prosper," was printed below a photo of an Aryan-looking man and woman reminiscent of Nazi-era propaganda. The messages have been tied to the Hundred-Handers, a white supremacist group active on Twitter since last May. The group distributes messages to its members to print and post anonymously. "If we're truly opposed (to racism), if we're truly a welcoming city and we're open to all nationalities and creeds, when spotted that needs to be immediately removed," said Sean Collins, secretary of the Capital District Democratic Socialists of America. A member of Collins' group circulated photos of two stickers and ripped them off city parking signs July 5. It is illegal under the Troy city code to post signs on public property. A city spokesperson said if there was staff available, graffiti, posters or stickers are removed. The spokesperson said the city was made aware of the Hundred-Handers stickers and took a number of them down earlier this spring, and heard about them again when reported by Spectrum News this weekend. Troy city councilman Anasha Cummings said the timing of the messages was notable as the reports of hate crimes grow nationwide and Troy debates whether it should do more to protect its undocumented residents from federal enforcement action.
