Kingston drops bid for DRI funding of public WiFi

Feb 26, 2018 12:30 pm

Paul Kirby is reporting in the Daily Freeman the city of Kingston has dropped its bid for state funding to support a public WiFi network in Uptown. The proposal was part of the city's application for $10 million in state money as part of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative program. Megan Weiss-Rowe, the city’s director for communications and community engagement, said Kingston still intends to establish a public WiFi system. “During the DRI process, some projects that were identified were ultimately not fundable under the terms of the DRI program or not ready to move forward within the time frame of the program,” Weiss-Rowe said in an email. The DRI application suggested that public WiFi would benefit the Stockade Business District. The proposal was one among several the city made to secure support for possible programs and projects. Previous efforts to establish public Wi-Fi in Kingston have been unsuccessful. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
