Cold enough to stop the trains Monday

Jan 25, 2011 5:40 am
Want to know how cold it was yesterday? Cold enough to stop Amtrak train service on their Empire Service line between Albany and New York City on Monday after signals, switches and other equipment froze in the sub-zero temperatures. That decision forced some passengers to find other ways to get around, and left some stranded on trains. And service on the Ethan Allen running between Rutland, Vermont and New York City was also suspended, but other long distance runs toward Buffalo/Niagara Falls and Montreal remained running. Metro North between Poughkeepsie and New York, meanwhile, did keep running Monday, although some problems were reported on the system's New Haven lines.
