Animal legislation being discussed in Albany

Nick Reisman reports at New York State of Politics that on May 10 the state Senate passed a bill that would expand a ban in New York on the sale of exotic animals. Sloths, kangaroos, hyenas, elephants, wallabies, and armadillos would be affected if the measure passes the Assembly and is signed by the governor. Lawmakers are also considering other animal legislation including a ban on devocalizing cats and dogs, and another bill requiring landlords and lessors to review property for any abandoned animals within three days of the property being vacated.
