Melanie Lekocevic is reporting for Capital Region Independent Media Republicans in Coeymans have endorsed a full slate of candidates for the November election, including four of five incumbents. The GOP held its caucus at the Ravena Grange, Wed., Mar. 3, with 28 registered Republicans in attendance. Offices on the ballot in November are town supervisor, two town council seats, town clerk, town justice and highway superintendent. Incumbent Town Supervisor George McHugh, was endorsed to run for a second two-year term. McHugh ran at the top of the ticket last time with a group that called itself the Coeymans Comeback Team. At the caucus last week, McHugh said the town has made progress since he took office nearly two years ago. “We are going in the right direction now,” he said. “We’ve got full-time leadership in town hall and it makes a difference.” Incumbent town board members Daniel Baker, Linda Bruno, Highway Superintendent Scott Searle and Town Justice Thomas Fres were all nominated by the caucus to serve another term. Political newcomer Laura Jane Barry is the only GOP candidate running who is not an incumbent. She has worked for a trade association for 25 years and this is her first time seeking elected office. “I look forward to campaigning and serving and working with all of these wonderful people.
