Barrett holds town hall meeting to address issues, take questions

Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media state Assembly member Didi Barrett held a town hall meeting January 28, at the Chatham firehouse to discuss policies and to take comments and questions from constituents in the 106th Assembly District. The event was hosted by Indivisible Chatham NY. Barrett spoke on a variety of topics, including the increasing number of young people leaving the district for job opportunities once they finish high school or college. Enrollment is declining in all of the region's school districts, she said. Barrett said a big challenge is finding ways to attract young families to the area, especially families with children. Barrett fielded questions from attendees about the expansion of broadband, the possibility of running against U.S. Rep. John Faso for the 19th Congressional District seat this year, health care, jobs and what can be done locally and statewide to get more Democrats into elected office. Indivisible Chatham NY President Alan Gelb said the meeting was held, in part, to initiate a discussion about voting.
