Sarah Trafton is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media Catskill residents turned out for a public hearing last week to discuss the future of Pollace’s Family Resort. The facility, located at 71 Landon Ave., is slated for new ownership and the Catskill Town Planning Board is reviewing its status as a religious institution. Prospective owner Jacob Bar-Horin intends to use the facility as an overnight summer camp for special-needs children of the Hasidic faith. Residents are expressing concerns over the septic system and the upkeep of the property. A letter from neighbors dated May 8, stated the smell of raw sewage is prevalent near the resort, especially on the south side of the property. Residents in attendance at the meeting urged the planning board to inspect the property before taking action. A condition of site plan approval will be inspection of the septic system, Planning Board Chairman Joseph Izzo said. Bar-Horin anticipates 60 children and 60 counselors will be transported by bus to the resort, while up to 50 additional staff member will travel by car. The children will range in age from 6 to 15 years old. Each child will be paired with a counselor and groups of four to six will be housed in the cabins, Bar-Horin said. The board closed the public hearing and now has 62 days to make its decision on the project. Read the full story at HudsonValley360 [dot] com.
