Abelove criticized successor DA to homicide victims' families

Kenneth C. Crowe II reports in the Albany Times Union that just a few weeks before outgoing Rensselaer County district attorney Joel E. Abelove turned over his office to Mary Pat Donnelly, he told families of homicide victims that his political opponent would not prosecute their case as well. Abelove also filed an indictment late against a former Troy police officer, causing the case to be dismissed. "The idea you would do something that upsets the confidence of victims' families in believing in the prosecution is certainly unfortunate," said Albany County District Attorney David Soares. "It borders on unethical behavior. It's certainly immoral." Donnelly, a Democrat, said the Republican also refused to meet with her during the transition. “Obviously, messes are coming up,” Donnelly said. “It’s what I expected.” Abelove did not comment on the article.
