Jeannette Wolfberg is reporting for The Columbia Paper that the Hudson Board of Education met March 2, in person for the first time in several weeks, without any online video feed. The agenda included the 2021-22 school budget and the announcement of some significant retirements, effective June 30. Hudson Business Administrator Jesse Boehme estimated the district could receive from the state roughly $25.3 million in school aid for the upcoming year. For the 2020-21 school year, the district received $24 million in state aid. In addition to state aid and tax revenue, Boehme estimated the district would receive $1.8 million for 2021-22 from miscellaneous sources, about $200,000 less than what was received for the current school year. Nearly half of the decrease is in Medicaid reimbursement. Other sources of revenue are expected to decrease including rental income and tuition. Whether the state will combine some of the now-separate categories of education aid into one category, should be known around April 1, Boehme said. The board also announced the anticipated retirements of 11 long-time district employees including Kerri Appelbaum, a school psychologist for 25.5 years; Jack Beyer, a technology teacher and coach of the district's robotics team, for 37 years; Nicky DeDominicis, a bus dispatcher for 25 years; Karen Engel, a special education teacher for 35 years; Diana Kipp, an elementary education teacher for 23 years; Dawn McDonald, the secretary to the superintendent for 28 years; Joseph Nero, a physical education for 23 years; Chuck Peters, an art teacher for 39 years; Judith Roehr, a library media specialist for 21 years; Adele Schertel, a teacher aide for 23 years; and, Ruby Tillman, a teacher aide for 25 years.
