Amanda Purcell is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media a buyer has been announced for the Catamount Ski Area. The owners of Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont, Massachusetts, are currently negotiating an agreement to purchase the ski area, Berkshire Mountain Resort owner Jon Schaefer said May 7. The purchase price has not been disclosed. The Catamount Ski Area straddles the Massachusetts-New York state line near Hillsdale and South Egremont, Massachusetts. Berkshire East Mountain Resort will help improve amenities and summer activities at the ski area. Catamount’s 36 trails and seven lifts provide access to the mountain, which has a 1,000-foot drop. “The area is phenomenal,” Schaefer said Monday. “There are a lot of second homeowners in the area and close to a lot of people in both locations.” The transaction is expected to close by the end of May, with no interruption of operations at Catamount.
