New York files amended DACA lawsuit
Oct 05, 2017 2:01 pm
On Oct. 4 New York filed an amended lawsuit against Donald Trump for ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. "The federal government has declared war on the values of tolerance and inclusion that built this state and this nation. This cruel move to rescind DACA feeds the beast of bigotry, and it will upend the lives of hundreds of thousands of young people across the nation," Cuomo said in a statement. New York, Massachusetts, Washington, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and the District of Columbia filed the suit, "to protect the States—including their residents, employers, small governmental jurisdictions, regulatory systems, and educational institutions—against the unlawful actions of the President of the United States and the federal government." Democrats in Washington D.C. warned that 42,669 DACA residents could miss an Oct. 5 deadline and face an uncertain future from a federal government that currently seems intent on removing many immigrants from the country.
