Kinderhook contracts with sheriff for enhanced patrols

Jul 10, 2018 7:00 am
Emilia Teasdale is reporting for The Columbia Paper the Kinderhook Town Board approved, at its regular monthly meeting July 2, a motion to contract with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office for Enhanced Enforcement Patrol. Enhanced enforcement hours go above and beyond the time already provided by the Sheriff's Office in Kinderhook, Supervisor Pat Grattan said. The average hourly cost of enhanced enforcement is approximately $47. Grattan emphasized that the town would not be paying for a deputy to cover the town 40 hours a week. He said the board is anticipating the time spent would be four to six hours a week. Grattan said between the state police and the sheriff's deputies, anywhere from 350 to 400 traffic tickets are given out every month on Kinderhook town roads. One resident at the meeting suggested the town could send a postcard to the state police to ask they conduct more patrols for free. The Kinderhook Town Board next meets 7 p.m., August 6.
