Hudson gun ban discussion draws crowd

Feb 28, 2013 6:46 am
The Hudson Common Council Legal Committee met Wed., Feb. 27, to consider a local law amendment to ban guns from city property, including parks, buildings and vehicles. The intent of the proposed legislation is "to protect city employees," said Legal Committee Chairman, Third Ward Alderman John Friedman. More than 100 opponents of the regulation turned out, but public comment was limited. Hudson Mayor William H. Hallenbeck Jr., calling himself "pro Second Amendment," told WGXC's Noah Reibel the change under consideration by the Common Council is redundant and could "create lawsuits for the city of Hudson." PLAY Hallenbeck interview (5:00). PLAY interview with Friedman and Common Council President Don Moore (3:22). WGXC's Tanya Blue spoke to one attendee about the ban: PLAY (:37). WGXC's Jim Shields spoke with Nancy Baker, a gun owner who works in Hudson. Marston attended the Legal Committee meeting and shared his thoughts on gun control with reporters. (The voice you hear is Joe Gentile of the Register Star.) PLAY (4:10).
