GX Jupitter-Larssen

Characterized by GX Jupitter-Larsen is a “radio poem” that adapts the words of United States Army intelligence analyst turned whistleblower Chelsea Manning. Jupitter-Larsen mixes, loops, stretches, and distorts phrases taken from Manning’s personal statement to the court martial at a pre-trial hearing for violations of the Espionage Act. Somewhat of a departure for Jupitter-Larsen, whose broadcasts and performances have often taken the form of monotonal durational noise-making, Characterized champions Manning, then in her sixth year of imprisonment for leaking sensitive documents, as an exemplar of informational insurgency. This piece was broadcast throughout 2015 on a number of stations including Resonance FM in the UK, Borealis Festival Radio in Norway, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's radio series Soundproof. - Described by Wave Farm Radio Art Fellow 2022-2023, Tyler Maxin
