Vassar College awarded for its economic diversity

The Daily Freeman is reporting Vassar College on Tue., Apr. 7, was awarded $1 million for its accomplishments in enrolling and graduating low-income, high-achieving students. The award, the first of its kind, was made by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation based in Northern Virginia. The newly established Cooke Prize for Equity in Educational Excellence goes to a college making strides in enrolling low-income students and supporting them to successful graduation. Nearly one out of four Vassar students comes from a family with an income low enough to qualify for federal Pell grants, according The New York Times. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
