Andrew Cuomo’s office floated the idea of moving the state, congressional, and presidential nominating contests to April 28. Dani Lever, the governor’s communications director pointed out that consolidating the primaries would boost turnout and save money. “The Governor believes the best governmental practice is to consolidate the presidential, congressional and state primary elections on one day making it easier to vote and saving tens of millions of taxpayer dollars rather than holding multiple elections,” she said in the statement released Sept. 6. This year the September statewide primary elections were moved up to be the same date as the June federal primaries. The year's presidential primary is scheduled for April 28.
