Faso isn't holding town hall meetings or publishing his schedule

Patricia R. Doxsey reports in The Daily Freeman about efforts to get new Congressperson John Faso to hold a town hall meeting. Faso, a Republican, has yet to meet the public willingly, though he did have an unscheduled appearance when a large group protesters marched from his Kinderhook office to his nearby home recently. Faso spoke to them briefly through a bullhorn, but has yet to hold his own town hall meeting, and won't publicize his schedule online like his predecessor Chris Gibson. “In terms of trying to get Rep. Faso to show up at a town hall meeting or public meeting, his staff, they don’t even say, ‘We’ll get back to you,’ they just shrug it off,” said Eve Fox, a volunteer with Citizens Action. “There’s never been any response. They don’t commit to anything, even getting back to us.” Faso’s communication’s director, Courtney Weaver, told the paper, “The congressman is more than happy to meet with constituents. He spoke at the [Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce] recently. He is meeting with people all the time.” That Jan. 19 Chamber of Commerce event cost $35 for non-members to attend. Faso does have a major fundraising event Feb. 22 at the Fort Orange Club in Albany. The 1199 SEIU labor union and others say they will demonstrate outside against dismantling the Affordable Health Care law. “If Representative Faso wanted to represent his constituents, he’d be out here listening to the needs of voters, not in there listening to those who can afford to write him a $2,700 check,” Phil Markman, a member of the Citizen Action of New York group, said.
