County bail fund formally launches
Daniel Zuckerman is reporting for Columbia-Greene Media the Columbia County Bail Fund was officially launched December 3 an event at Time & Space Limited in Hudson. The fund is intended to assist those of limited financial means accused of misdemeanors in Columbia County, with bail capped at $2,000, the fund’s founder, Linda Mussmann, said. People without the financial resources to afford bail can sit in jail for days or weeks before they have their day in court, resulting in potential job loss and rising debt. “At times defendants plead guilty to charges just to get of jail, which results in more problems, more fines, more money, more trips to court,” Mussmann said. Mussmann, a co-director of Time & Space Limited and Hudson 4th Ward supervisor elect, will serve as the fund’s president.
