Conservative Party backs Molinaro for governor, not DeFrancisco

David Lombardo reports for Capitol Confidential that Sen. John DeFrancisco is considering his options in his bid to become governor, after the Republican did not get the endorsement of Conservative Party leaders. They endorsed Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro for governor instead, and now DeFrancisco says, “We’ll explore different things, but I’m not out of it at this point.” DeFrancisco, who has been endorsed by the Conservative Party in his past state Senate elections, did not promise to stay in the Republican primary. “I thought I had a good record with the Conservative Party, but sometimes record and background is not as important as political analysis,” he said. Conservative Party Chair Mike Long seemed to agree with DeFrancisco's analysis. “Ultimately, Marcus Molinaro presented the best opportunity to win this election,” said Long.
