Toby Kaufmann-Buhler

Toby Kaufmann-Buhler (based in Lafayette, Indiana) explores sensory perception, identity, history and memory through his work in image, sound and space. This involves the integration of a number of different media including video, film, found/composed sound, text and installation work. He has produced collaborative work with a number of musicians, composers, poets and visual artists, and his installation work utilizing custom-designed video projection has been exhibited in numerous venues.

Kaufmann-Buhler was a recipient of the Individual Artist Program grant from the Indiana Arts Commission in 2018-2019, received the Foundation Prize from Peripheral Vision Arts in 2016, and in 2017 was a resident artist at Signal Culture (New York) and at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts (Nebraska). Alongside many group exhibitions, he has had solo exhibitions at Listen Hear (Indianapolis, Indiana), James Watrous Gallery (Madison, Wisconsin), Window - re/production re/presentation (public art project space in Asheville, North Carolina), and Little Monroe Gallery (Madison, Wisconsin). Kaufmann-Buhler’s video work has also been featured in national and international screening tours and festivals in gallery and theatrical venues. He has a BA in Fine Arts from the University of South Florida (Tampa, Florida USA) and an MA from the Royal College of Art (London, England).
