Gail Heinsohn is reporting in the Chatham Courier New Lebanon Town Supervisor Mike Benson announced at a recent Town Board meeting he has learned the company seeking to expand its existing gas pipeline through town will begin its public outreach with a countywide public relations event in the coming weeks. Benson reportedly met with representatives from Kinder-Morgan, the fourth largest energy company in North America and the parent company of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline. Bruce Shenker, a New Lebanon resident and member of the county Environmental Management Council, once again requested the Town Board approve a resolution in opposition to the expansion. Shenker made a similar request in August following his presentation on the pipeline to the board. Officials indicated they were not ready to vote on that resolution. Benson said he wants the other side of the issue to be heard before the board takes any action. The Tennessee Gas Pipeline stretches nearly 14,000 miles and carries natural gas from Louisiana, the Gulf of Mexico and south Texas to the northeast section of the United States. Shenker and Scott Cohen will discuss the potential impact of the pipeline expansion on Columbia County during the WGXC Afternoon Show at 4 p.m. today (Fri., Sept. 12).
