MidHudson News reports that New York's Department of Environmental Conservation has new freshwater fishing regulations that go into effect on April 1. Rainbow trout, brown trout, and splake in lakes and ponds can now be caught year-round, with a five-fish daily limit, any size, with a “no more than two longer than 12 inches” harvest rule. The season for Walleye, Northern Pike, Pickerel, and Tiger Muskellunge now opens May 1; the season for Muskellunge opens June 1; the season for Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass now opens June 15. The statewide sunfish daily harvest limit has been reduced from 50 to 25 fish. And the statewide minimum size limit for crappie has been increased from nine inches to ten inches.
