Legislature names Kevin Lewis acting chairman

Ariel Zangla is reporting in the Daily Freeman the Greene County Legislature appointed Legislator Kevin Lewis of Greenville acting chairman at its organizational meeting, Wed., Jan. 8. Lewis will lead the Legislature until Chairman Wayne Speenburgh of Coxsackie can resume his duties. Speenburgh is ill, and has been hospitalized at Albany Medical Center for a few weeks, county Administrator Shaun Groden said. He said Speenburgh was expected to be discharged from the hospital this weekend. The chairman's family has not disclosed the nature of the illness. Lewis has been majority leader of the Legislature since January 2013. He told the paper he wished Speenburgh a speedy recovery. In the meantime, Lewis said, the business of the county still had to be done. “Somebody’s got to sign the papers,” he said. Read the full story in the Daily Freeman.
